Reflexology and Creative Healing Massage for Pregnancy and Postnatal Recovery

Reflexology

Reflexology is one of the most powerful non-invasive healing treatments available and is an important part of the Gentle Birth Method. Regular treatments during pregnancy may help to prepare the mother mentally and physically for labour and birth. Reflexology is safe to use in pregnancy and may help relieve a variety of symptoms.
It may help to:

• Alleviate anxiety
• Reduce fluid retention and swelling
• Aid digestion and other organ functions
• Relieve discomfort and back ache
• Improve the oxygen supply to the placenta and baby
• Strengthen the immune system
• Reduce stress induced hypertension
• Improve sleep
• Encourage onset of labour

Postnatal care is often a neglected area. The physicality of having a baby is not spread over nine months, but twelve. For three months after the birth (the fourth trimester) your body is recovering from the effects of the pregnancy. In addition to the known benefits of reflexology, postnatal treatments may:

• Increase energy levels and restore vitality
• Boost kidney function and assist elimination of body fluids
• Strengthen the immune system
• Provide much needed care and attention for yourself

The History of Reflexology is an ancient healing art first practised by the early Indian, Chinese and Egyptian peoples. It is based on the principle that there are reflex points on the hands and feet that relate to all parts of the body. Using specific thumb and finger techniques to apply gentle pressure to these reflex points are believed to enable the body to:

• Relieve stress and tension
• Improve circulation
• Eliminate toxins
• Enhance wellbeing

Creative Healing Massage
is the perfect form of safe massage in pregnancy and postnatally and is an essential component of the Gentle Birth Method. It is a nurturing, calming treatment performed with a gentle touch using virgin olive oil. Its aim is to restore normal function to any disturbed part of the body and it can be used at any time in a person’s life, but in pregnancy it may help to drain the lymphatic system and keep you healthy and in the best possible condition to give birth. It is deeply relaxing and completely safe in pregnancy.
Creative Healing was developed in the United States by Joseph B Stephenson towards the beginning of the last century. It aims to realign energy flows, restore drainage channels and body temperatures and reposition displaced substances within the body.
